RATE SHEET #20
Effective October 1, 2007
[What the critics say about Rate Sheet #19: "Even better than Rate Sheet #18", "Two thumbs up...", "...a poignant presentation of prices and placements," "a laugh a minute", "I don't think I've ever seen Rate Card 19 before," "almost certain to be a smash," "cheaper than Gone with the Wind" (we're not sure what that means but it sounded good to us), "...tasteful...", "rates subject to change without notice"]
The Blue Sheet is published on the 10th and 25th of every month, except December (the 10th only) and January (the 25th only). DEADLINES FOR ADVERTISERS are the 20th of the month -- for the issue published on the 25th-- and the 5th of the month for the issue published on the 10th.
NOTE: Because this rate sheet was developed for our 20 page paper edition, which we have ceased to publish as of Jan 1, 2008, we offer this to give a feel for how much we charge. Our electronic version is currently undergoing testing out at the track, where we are tuning sizes and placements and doing all kinds of other advertising stuff, like we learned in college.
Stand by. We'll be posting it sometime in January.
ADVERTISING RATES 7
The Blue Sheet makes advertising simple. We'll run your CAMERA READY ad in The Blue Sheet for the ridiculously low prices set forth below. And by "CAMERA READY" we mean the RIGHT SIZE and set out EXACTLY the way you want it to appear in the newsletter. All we have to do is put it in the right place and paste it down. If we have to do ANYTHING to it (reduce or enlarge it, add or take away type, or do any design work on it of any kind), then it is NOT CAMERA READY. Ah, but not to worry. For the modest, one time premium of TEN ($10 count 'em $10) DOLLARS (and it don't get much cheaper than that), we'll make it camera ready. We may, ofcourse, decide that what you want is beyond our meager skills -- that happens a lot -- in which case you'll have to do it yourself. (No, no. Hold your applause till the end.)
Our Display Ad rates are for EACH time an ad runs. It works like this, see. Suppose you run a Jumbo 16 ad (one of our more popular favorites -- one size fits all). It's going to cost you $90. If you run it three times, you'll save $15 because each one will cost $85 (you get a price break when you run three, see, $5 an ad.) Run six times and you get an even better price break, 10 bucks ($10) an ad. Run 12 times and the savings really pile up: each ad costs only $65. (Hey, that's a saving of $300 over a one-timer.) And if you run 22 times, it's only $50 an ad. (You can take a cruise on just what you save over the one time rate. Is this a great country, or what?)
Anyhow, here's the schedule. Keep in mind as you read this that a Jumbo 16 is an ad that is somewhat larger than a 16th of a page but smaller than an 8th. A Jumbo 8 is one that is somewhat larger than an 8th of a page but smaller than a quarter of a page. A Jumbo 4 is, you guessed it, larger than a quarter of a page but smaller than a half. And a Jumbo 2, well, what can we say? Bigger than a half, smaller than a Full. Got that?
22 TIMES 12 TIMES 6 TIMES 3 TIMES 1 TIME
Jumbo 16 $ 50 ea $ 65 ea $ 80 ea $ 85 ea $ 90 ea
Jumbo 8 $ 90 ea $120 ea $150 ea $160 ea $175 ea
Jumbo 4 $150 ea $225 ea $290 ea $310 ea $340 ea
Jumbo 2 $300 ea $375 ea $450 ea $525 ea $600 ea
FULL PAGE 1600 ea 1600 ea 1600 ea 1600 ea 1600 ea
A Full Page ad costs $1600 no matter how many times you run it. See, we don't encourage Full Page ads; we'd rather have the space available for information. But if you're willing to pay through the nose, it's O.K. with us.
COMMISSIONS: All ads except for Billboards (see below) and Classifieds are commissionable to bona fide advertising agencies. This includes in-house agencies that are members of AAAA or other recognized professional advertising organization or association. Commission to bona fide agencies, including legitimate in-house agencies, is 17½%. (17.5%)

NOW, THEN, LET’S SAY A WORD ABOUT SIZES:
Jumbo 16 (vertical) 2¼" wide - 2½" high
Jumbo 16 (horizontal)* 3¾ wide - 2" high
Jumbo 8 (vertical) 2¼" wide - 4¾" high
Jumbo 8 (horizontal) 3¾" wide - 4" high
Jumbo 4 (vertical)* 2¼" wide - 9½" high
Jumbo 4 (horizontal) 7½" wide - 2½" high
Jumbo 4 (rectangular) 4" wide - 4¾" high
Jumbo 2 (horizontal only) 7½" wide - 5" high
Full Page** 7½" wide - 10" high
*Advertisers find these sizes particularly effective -- but it's up to you.
**No full bleed. Photos are not encouraged (it's black ink on blue paper, for crying out loud)
Classified Ads and Rates (NOT COMMISSIONABLE)
It pays to subscribe, and we are shamefully partial to our subscribers. For non-subscribers: $25 for the first 300 characters, including punctuation and spaces. $30 for 301-400 characters. $35 for 401-500 characters, including spaces and punctuation. No classifieds over 500 characters. For subscribers: $15 for the first 300 characters (and you get the spaces for FREE!). $5 for each additional 100 characters up to 500 (and the spaces are still free).
Billboard Ads -- Think of them as Itsy Bitsy, Teeny Weeny Business Cards (NOT COMMISSIONABLE -- got that? NOT COMMISSIONABLE. DON’T ASK. They’re cheap!)
As you look through THE BLUE SHEET, you'll notice columns of ads in the outside column of several pages. These are our Billboard Ads (clever name, don't you think? I thought of it.) These are ALWAYS exactly 2.6 inches wide and always 1.6 inches high. No exceptions! They are ALWAYS horizontal, and usually a reproduction of a business card (though you can put pretty much what you want in that space. We don't recommend photos, but do as you like.) If your business card doesn't fit, you'll have to reduce it to make it fit. (We'll do it for you, if you want, but we'll charge you $10 to do it, of course.) Placement is ALWAYS on a first come, first served basis and is NEVER guaranteed. The ads are very inexpensive: $40 each for the first three times they are run (for a total of $120); $35 each time they run, if you run more than three, and they don't have to be consecutive. You can run whenever you want, but the first four times you run, your money must accompany your ad. After that, we'll be glad to bill you. If you'll commit to a four-time package, you may include $70 with your ad and order. The $70 pays for the LAST TWO ADS of the package. We bill you $35 each for the 1st and 2nd ads when they are run; and if you wind up running less than four, you'll be billed for and be responsible for, the additional $5 per ad, even if you have paid in advance. Got all that? At least a 4-time commitment $140: $35 each and $70 (for ads 3 and 4) with the order. Call us if you're still confused. We read this, and we're confused.
And a final note on all advertising, we're affable folks, gentle and very kind. But don’t interpret our affability as an expression of weakness. If you stiff us we'll follow you to the ends of the earth. We'll turn you over to Clark & Poole, for collection. And they ALWAYS collect. Trust us, you don't want to have to deal with Clark & Poole. They're not very nice. They collect for us, and we don't like them.
